Over the past decade the El Mayor brand came in and out of the market with a couple of minor labeling changes until eventually there was no evidence of new shipments in the U.S.A. Then, boom, in 2006 came a "re-launch" of the label in these sleek, new, eye catching bottles. The word "reserve" was dropped and there is a new importer. I can't yet say if the tequila is the same or similar to the old presentations but the new packaging design is very attractive indeed. Each bottle is numbered and emblazoned with the name of Master Distiller, Roberto González. Señor González founded the Destiladora González González factory in 1984. Prior to this Roberto apparently worked for his uncle, Sr. Eucario González at the Eucario González factory in Tequila, Jalisco. Roberto González is a third generation Master Distiller and with a family history in the tequila business dating back a 125 years the name certainly carries some weight.

The two on-line retailers that currently show Tequila El Mayor in stock also show images of the old bottlings along. The relaunch of El Mayor appears to have a solid importer with great backing so expect to see it everywhere soon. We are currently seeing it in the Denver area.
