For a long while Herradura was the only 100% agave tequila available to us here in the United States and the name, Herradura, which is Spanish for horseshoe is very well respected in tequila circles. Tequila Herradura was founded in 1870 and the distillery is located on the grounds of the Hacienda San Jose del Refugio which until recently had never made anything but 100% agave tequila. The company's secondary label, 'El Jimador', is now being produced as a mixed tequila but the entire Herradura line of tequila is still 100% agave.
