Central Hisumer S. L. - Spain

Adam and his wife, Sarai picked up this very cool and quite interesting bottle of añejo in Spain while vacationing in the country in 2005. Sure it's brand is La Cofradia but this is not the La Cofradía most of us are familiar with as on the previous page. As the NOM of 1468 suggests this tequila brand is exported by "Grupo Tequilero Mexico" and therefore not associated in any way with the La Cofradía factory which produces tequila under the NOM of 1137. Another great clue and confirmation of this tequila's origin is the bottle itself. This is obviously the same bottle that was once used for the no longer available, Casta Oro. Casta products were produced at a couple of different factories but Casta Oro was definitely produced at Tequileña (NOM 1146) for a period and exported by none other than "Grupo Tequilero".

It may seem odd that a company as big as La Cofradia which produces big name labels like Casa Noble would stand still for something like this. I'm sure it's simply a matter of usage and trade names being unique for different Countries. La Cofradía (Mexico) has likely never tried to market it's proprietary label in Spain. It's also reasonable enough to think that a company in Spain would come up with this name unaware that it was already in use in Mexico. After all the countries share the same basic Spanish language and La Cofradía translates to "The Brotherhood".

Adam also supplied the name of the Spanish importer for this label and their web site. The site is a little awkward but if you can figure it out there is a page that shows the importers products including this añejo and two other tequilas with the La Cofradia brand.
