Luther Rochester was one of about 30 tequila aficionados that attended a tour in Jalisco of a number of factories over the course of several days in March 2006. This great tour was the brainchild of Harry Reifscheider where he and his wife Blanca were responsible for organizing the entire adventure. It was a great experience for all to be sure but it was also impossible to see everything. A good example of this was how the group was treated by the folks from Tequila La Parreñita. As the tour group was not able to fit this factory into the itinerary due to it's relative location and logistics, Carlos Phillips of Tequila La Parreñita arranged to meet us all one evening at the adjacent dining room of our hotel, the Mision Tequillian in Tequila. What a great gesture by these gentlemen and the company to go to all this effort and expense for the benefit of our group. To be honest from my perspective I was, shall we say, a little foggy at this point. After all we had spent the day visiting other factories in Tequila where we were treated like royalty at every turn and I did my share of soaking up the local flavor. I was thankful to Luther for sending pictures that he took that night of these great tequilas we were all treated to as it brought some clarity and memories from the evening. I do remember many raving about this Penca Azul Añejo that was engraved with the words, "Reserva 2005".
Penca Azul Añejo as well as the Reposado and recently released Blanco are now all available in the USA.
