The Pueblo Viejo brand is a product of Tequila San Matias which has a history in Jalisco dating back to the 1880's. Originally founded in the town of Magdalena which is just West of Tequila the company moved to Tepatitlan in Los Altos around1960. According to Bob Emmons in "The Book of Tequila", Pueblo Viejo (reposado only) was first imported to the USA in the mid 1990's by a comany out of Northern California and was the first 100% agave tequils we ever saw from this factory.
Update: 11/2006: Good news for all is that Marsalle Company picked up the Pueblo Viejo Brand in the summer of 2006. I'll have more on this tequila soon but recommend the Pueblo Viejo tequilas to all for their consistent quality and value. |
