This tequila has been named for the historic village of Tonalá in Jalisco. The town of Tonalá is one of Mexico's oldest pueblos and a great number of artisans live and work in this quiet community. A great deal of the pottery and ceramics sold in nearby Guadalajara and indeed many other parts of the world are made here. The beautiful decanter that holds this two year añejo has been hand painted and crafted in the town of Tonalá and has also been glazed on the inside to retain the quality of the tequila.
The bottle of Tonala pictued above was purchased a few years back and was from Corporación Ansan, S.A. DE C.V. (NOM 1360). As with the Suprema Reserva on the following page Tonala is currently being produced at Fabrica de Tequilas Finos. I'm seeing a lot of tequila coming out of this factory and a number seem to be imported by Pacific Edge.
