Originally this label was produced at NOM 1173 and was likely intended for U.S. consumers because the bottles were labeled for gringos with designations like "Aged", "Extra Aged" and in this case, "Silver". This was a very good tequila blanco. In fact I would say that Tequila Aficionado seemed to fly under the radar a little and in general was underrated. A few years back local stocks had all but disappeared and then not too long ago Aficionado started to show up again. The label continued to be imported by Zuma Importing Company, only now the tequila was being produced at a new factory. "Productos Finos de Agave" (NOM 1416) and the new bottles took more of an universal approach with labeling. The designations now read, "Blanco/Silver", "Reposado/Aged" and "Añejo/Extra Aged." I haven't had a chance to try any of the newer Aficionado from Productos Finos de Agave but I'm going to have to get on it because once again Aficionado is becoming harder to find and the long time web domain of www.tequila-aficionado.com is gone. Hopefully this doesn't spell the demise of Tequila Aficionado and is just another transitional phase.
