"Agave Tequilana" is the first factory listed in Bob Emmon's 1997 book, "The Book of Tequila" and at that time Bob reported that the distillery was owned and operated by the Garibay family, cousins of the Camarena family of Tequila Tapatio (El Tesoro). Also at that time the factory apparently used traditional production methods similar to Tequila Tapatio including the use of a Tahona. I don't know the current status of this factory or even the significance of the name "Don Alejo". This brand appears to be fading from todays market and becoming increasingly difficult to find. Mission still has some of this blanco and Don Alejo reposado in stock. At the time of this posting Hi-Time has the last of their supply of the Don Alejo Blanco and Reposado clearance priced at $18.99 and $19.99. Don't wait too long though because I'll be heading to that site as soon as I'm done here. There used to be a Don Alejo website but it no longer online. |
