Tequila Don Julio, S.A. DE C.V.

This tequila has long been one of my favorites. Don Julio Silver embodies all the things I look for in a blanco. It has a true, full and fresh agave nose and taste. It is surprisingly smooth and a delight to be sipped. The crisp, clean nature and well-balanced taste of this tequila also makes it wonderful for cocktails. In the year 2000 Don Julio introduced it's Reposado to the U.S. and along with a new U.S. importer began exporting all it's products in new bottles. The look is basically the same with "Tequila Don Julio" now embossed on the bottle and the signature of Don Julio González has replaced the Tres Magueyes logo on the neck label. It's my understanding that the distillery remains the same though the name has been changed from Tequila Tres Magueyes to Tequila Don Julio most likely to reflect how locals had long referred to the facility. The NOM 1449 is also new and probably a result of the name change.

A Mazatlan info site, PacificPearl.Com has an archived article by author Jackie Peterson, which also has a couple photos of Don Julio Gonzalez Estrada here: http://www.pacificpearl.com/archive/2002/january/feature0.htm
