Estate Grown El Tesoro de Don Felipe is said to be produced by the old traditional methods. 'Estate Grown' means that they harvest all agave for their Tequila in their own fields. They still crush their agave in old stone crushing pits or 'tahonas'. El Tesoro is very highly thought of in Tequila circles and should be, if nothing else because it absolutely has the most traditional process in the industry. Very strong in agave flavor and very enjoyable.
NOTE: Robert Denton & Company, Ltd. continued to be listed as the importer on bottles these older bottles of El Tesoro de Don Felipe as well as Chinaco but Mr. Denton actually sold his interest in these products a few years back. The brand of El Tesoro is now owned and controlled by industry giant, Jim Beam Brands Worldwide, which is a subsidiary of the even larger company of Fortune Brands, Inc.
At the present time (06/05/2004) it's not uncommon to find these older versions of El Tesoro de Don Felipe but the new bottles are taken hold fast. If you're a particular fan of El Tesoro "Silver" I'd recommend stocking up. The new El Tesoro blanco is named "Platinum" and covered on the next page. Despite what some might tell you there are some obvious differences in the two products.
I no longer have "buy" links on this page because of this older bottling but El Tesoro Platinum can be found virtually everywhere and on-line retailers links are provided on the "Platinum" page, two clicks away.
