Tequila Lapis Platinum was introduced well after the already established Tequila Lapis Añejo. Not long after the arrival of this tequila I noticed it became harder and harder to find. I assumed that Lapis was either no longer being produced or at least not being imported. However in November of 2001 I spoke with Mr. Anthony Garcia of Southern Wine & Spirits of New Mexico and he said that all was well with Tequila Lapis but at that time he did not have this blanco version. I recently had a discussion with a local broker who also mentioned Tequila Lapis which has not been seen here in the Denver area for some time. He said that he was expecting to have more of this product soon. As of 01/01/02 I have yet to see any sign of it.
At my last update Lapis Platinum was listed at Hi-Time and IWS. It is not listed at any of the on-line retailers as of this update. This adds to the question of the status of Tequila Lapis. The old Lapis web site of: http://www.tequila-lapis.com/ was also in serious need of an update. I guess they finally resolved that issue. Now there is no Tequila Lapis site at all. None of this looks good but a Lapis Reposado has recently been showing up in some areas so maybe there is still hope for the label.
Lapis Añejo is currently in stock at Hi-Time but they're asking $120.00. It's a good tequila but I've never seen it priced that high. Hi-Time is always one of the more competitive on-line sources for tequila when it come to pricing. Maybe they know something I don't.
