This new label began to appear in the market in mid 2003. I'm not familiar with this NOM and haven't seen any other tequila from this factory. Lou Barton provided the following blurb that is printed on the back labels of Manik which may give at least some idea of where the name came from. "The art of tequila is "MANIK" the ancient Spirit of Mexico. The agave plant was used to create the drink of the gods. MANIK has takes this ancient drink and transformed into a special and sophisticated tequila using the best Agave Tequiliana Weber variedad azul. This combined with years of experience results in a tequila fitting the ancient gods of Mexico".

Harry Reifschneider has informed me that the "Tequilera La Quemada" (NOM 1457) distillery is located in Arenal.
