Very interesting label for a number of reasons. Primarily because the tequila brand and this factory were mentioned by Bob Emmons in his 1997 book. At the time of Bob's writing the 'La Fortuna' factory was only producing tequila under this name of Revolucionario 501. Additionally Mr. Emmons added that all Revolucionario 501 tequila was produced solely for export to France.
We also know that Martin Grassl produced some of his storied Porfidio tequila here though he tried to keep these details on the QT. Indeed early shipments of Porfidio Plata "cactus" bottles had the NOM 1141 discretely applied but even more interesting was the shrink wrap plastic used for sealing the stoppers had the phrase "Edicion Revolucionario 501" printed on them.
Currently this tequila can be found in Mexico under the modified name of "Evolucion 501". Surely this change was due to legal issues. Possibly a conflict with the French exports or more likely the name may have been deemed too close to other tequila brands already sold in Mexico. This would have only become an issue as the intent to sell the brand domestically in Mexico was established. As long as the brand was sold only in France it would not have been an issue. It is possible that Revolucionario 501continues to be sold in France while in Mexico you'll find Evolucion 501. There was obviously a window of time before these things came to a head when some tequila of the former name was sold in Mexico. After all that is where the bottle pictured above was found.
As mentioned this factory had the original NOM of 1141 but the name of the company was also changed and therefore assigned the new NOM of 1464. Look at the previous name of "Elaborado y Procesadora de Agave y sus Derivados, S.A. DE C.V." and it's pretty easy to understand the desire for change. Now the company is simply named "Distileria 501" which is less of a mouth full and using "501" in the name seems appropriate.
