I love finding obscure items like this. At first glance it looks like a bottle of Jack Daniel's or some cheap whiskey. The label claims it to be 100% Blue Agave and they call it "Reposado Gold". It's color is darker than even the darkest tequila añejo and the term "Gold" implies they've probably added caramel or possibly an artificial color to a rested 100% agave product. If this is true than this product falls under an 8th and unusual category of Tequila. It is common for caramel to be added to a tequila mixto ( You know "Cuervo Gold", "Sauza Gold", or any other fricken "Gold". ) but it is rare for color to be added to100% agave tequila, and virtually unheard of in a tequila reposado. In Mexico the term for this process is joven abocado( 'young and smoothed' ) which is designed to smooth out or mellow harsh Mixtos that are often exported to the US in big ol' tanker trucks. The bottle itself is really cool. I found it in a dusty close-out bin in a seedy old liquor store. It has an Aztec motif with Aztec symbols screen-printed on the sides. Oh, by the way, it cost seven bucks.
