Del Maguey, Ltd. Co.

This brand new product introduced by Del Maguey in the year 2002 is a wonderful blend of 80% San Luis del Rio, Single Village Mezcal and 20% roasted agave syrup. I was aware of this product by visiting the Del Maguey web site and when I came across Crema de Mezcal in a Boulder area liquor store I was more than happy to grab a bottle and give it a try. The product is the recipient of a Gold Medal from the 2002 "World Spirits Championship" and I can definitely understand it's appeal. Crema de Mezcal is 80.6 proof so it is not like a liqueur. It has the unmistakable earthy flavor present in all of the Single Village products and yet has been smoothed with a very nice touch of the unfermented roasted agave syrup. This added syrup provides a very pleasant sweetness that is light, does not detract from the mezcal and makes it very enjoyable for sipping. My first bottle of Crema was quickly devoured but at under $40.00 I will be getting more soon.
