In contrast to the 4 month rested version of 1921 on the previous page, 1921 "Reserva Especial" has reportedly been aged from 8 to 12 months in select wooden barrels. The bottle of "Reserva Especial" pictured above is labeled as "AGED" which in Spanish obviously translates to "Añejo." I have not seen 1921 here in the US for a while now but it is still sold in Mexico. This older bottle is labeled as "aged" in two places but a newer bottle of "Reserva Especial" recently purchased in Mexico is labeled "aged" in one spot and "reposado" in another. There is currently a Mexico1921 website which lists four products with a blanco, reposado and the Reserva Especial which is also listed as reposado. The fourth product is a very good cream and tequila liquor. Understandably this tequila looks to be much darker in color than the 4 month version but for now this is the only comparison I can make as I have yet to crack open the newer bottle of Reserva Especial. Also a noteworthy distinction of the newer bottles of Reserva Especial is that they are now sealed with a red wax while the blanco and 4 month version continue to be sealed with green wax.

Update 01/2003: 1921 is available again and the sellers above have it in stock.
