On occasion I had heard Tequila Cabo Wabo referred to as 'Los Cinco Soles' and wasn't quite sure of the connection. Then I saw this bottle from the collection of Tim Carter and it all makes a little more sense. I was relatively new to the premium tequila scene but my passion for the spirit was just hitting full stride when I started seeing Cabo Wabo Reposado in a few local liquor stores. It was sold in the hand blown turquoise bottles with the NOM 1426. The hang tags on these bottles proclaimed, "My Search for the finest tequila is over. I've found it! Paradise in a bottle. Check it out, It's Cabo Wabo. Vitamin T!" .......Sammy Hagar." Well it appears that this fine tequila that Sammy found in Guadalajara was a 100% agave reposado previously sold only in Mexico under the label of 'Los Cinco Soles' and produced at Tequila El Viejito. The white ceramic bottle of Cabo Wabo pictured above does indeed have the name "Los Cinco Soles' printed on the upper portion of the container and so did the very early blue bottles. This bottle was obviously an early release of Sammy's spirit and Cabo Wabo is now produced at a different distillery. An excellent find and a very collectable bottle gives this tequila a four star rating even though I have never had the pleasure of tasting 'Los Cinco Soles.'

Up until April of 2002 the only Official Cabo Wabo Tequila Web Site was at Sammy Hagar's Site: http://www.redrocker.com/tequila.html. After checking out the Original Cabo Wabo Tequila Ad displayed there one gets the impression that Sammy likes to drink his tequila with a little silicone and lime.

The Current Importer of Cabo Wabo tequila, Wilson Daniels, Ltd., also has a pages and downloadable Sell Sheets. - http://www.wilsondaniels.com
