This acquisition directly from Mexico is a truly hand blown 1.0 L bottle with a jug style handle, pouring spout and two glass agave plants inside. Bottles of tequila bought in Mexico are 38% alcohol by volume as opposed to 40% here in the U.S. and obviously do not have an importer listed even if there is one. Sometimes as in this case the Mexican distributor is listed on the bottle. This is Reposado the way I like it. It's color is extremely light compared to most Reposados with an excellent balance of Agave flavors and subtle tones from the oak. There were some suspended particles in this bottle similar to some of the early handblown bottles of Chinaco. To be honest I think this is a result of the bottles not being washed well. This may sound gross but bottles like these are handblown by Mexican artists and each one is unique. It would be very difficult to have an automated washing system to accommodate every limited addition bottle. Therefore I believe the particles are most likely just a bit of ash from the fires of the glassblowing factory and possible dust acquired during shipment to the distillery.100% Agave Tequila is distilled twice according to Mexican law and I'm sure the 38% alcohol takes care of any sanitary issues. I would recommend this reposado if you run across it. The bilingual book, "Guía del Tequila" claims this tequila is or has been exported to the United States but I have not seen it anywhere.
