A product of Tequila Herradura, El Jimador is considered to be the companies secondary label but it's popularity is well established in Mexico and has continued to rise here in the U.S. The older bottle pictured above is labeled 100% percent agave but be aware that Herradura has cut back the El Jimador label to 51% agave. This is/was definitely a sad commentary on the industry as Tequila Herradura had previously never made anything but 100% agave tequila.

( 06/2002 ) The El Jimador Blanco and Reposado currently being stocked are mixed tequila. The bottles look exactly like the 100% agave product with the phrase "100% de Agave" now noticeably absent from the label. Both Internet retailers above currently list both products but you can be sure they are now the mixed version. If "100% Agave" or a similar phrase it is not designated clearly on the label it is tequila mixto.

( 07/2005 ) El Jimador continues to be produced as a 51% agave tequila even though there seems to be no shortage of agave. But why change back? Even after the switch from 100% agave to mixto a few years ago the Brand has continued to be very popular with the Mexican consumer. In fact, thanks to an aggressive advertising campaign directed at younger drinkers the tequila has never been more popular. I'll continue to show these old 100% agave bottles of El Jimador here to serve as a reminder of the "good ol' days".

I no longer provide "buy" links on this page because this 100% agave El Jimador is no longer produced. The current mixto can be found virtually everywhere.
