These bottles of Tequila Farias are a variation of the trademark barrel shaped bottles that originally came with a wooden base and were designed to be stored in a horizontal position with no danger of leaking do to the extremely well engineered cap or stopper. I have not had a chance to sample the original Farias Reposado which appeared to be of a much lighter color than this medium amber tequila. To be honest this tequila has a very strong and somewhat unusual character. I was recently visited by a fellow aficionado whose opinion I trust and he compared it to a mezcal. Farias also has a blanco on the market and I look forward to trying it to see if this flavor is inherent to the tequila or a result of the resting process.
