Searching around the internet for information about this tequila I quickly realized that it was named for a notable archaeological site located within a narrow pass into the Tequila valleys from southern Nayarit. This site is one of many in the Tequila valley left by the ancient Teuchitlan culture.

Just recently in July of 2006 The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) named Tequila and the surrounding valleys a "World Heritage Site". This is an extremely honorable designation and global recognition for a region of historic and cultural importance. Noted in one press release,
"Tequila’s World Heritage Site also comprises archaeological sites left by the Teuchitlan culture. This culture influenced the Tequila region from 200 to 900 A.D. through the creation of terraces for agriculture, housing, temples, ceremonial mounds and ball courts."

"Llano Grande" is one of these such sites.
