Muchote is my new "Go-To" tequila. What do I mean by that? Well it comes down to a number of factors. Foremost, Muchote is a solid, versatile tequila reposado that's as much at home in a snifter or tequila glass as it is mixed in cocktails. At the same time a "Go-To" tequila should be readily available and affordable. Some call this their "everyday" tequila, the brand they might buy most often and for many occasions.
The reposado has a nice light golden color and good agave character. Many tequila aficionados will also like the fact that Muchote is a "Highlands" tequila produced smack-dab in the middle of Arandas. I have always appreciated a good reposado and the Muchote brand started up with a very nice one. I may be fortunate because the Import company, Mucho Tequila, Inc is located here in Denver. I'm sure this is why Muchote is at my nearest and dearest liquor store and getting rave reviews all over town. If you aren't seeing the brand in your region yet, try to contact the Muchote guys though their web-site (Link above). While your there you'll probably notice that I'm not the only one who has noticed this tequila and it seems to be poised for a wide distribution. One of the many accolades for Muchote was an award for "Judge Favorite" in the 2008 Agave Spirits Challenge. I had the very fortunate honor to be a judge in that competition and it was a wonderful and enlightening experience. Over 80 brands were tasted completely "blind" and we, as judges, were only told the retail price of each spirit to rate "value" after we recorded our tasting assessments. We were never told the brand names until the competition was over. Obviously Muchote Tequila stood out even under these very impartial and completely unpredictable conditions.
So for me, Muchote Tequila has it all, an award winning reposado from the Los Altos region that I can pick up any time for 30 bucks! Really! If and when you're able to get Muchote see if you don't agree that it's one of the best tequila values out there.
